Important information about MSU Gran Fondo 8

Are you ready for the big ride? There is a lot of pertinent information for us to share, so here’s the breakdown of what you need to know before Saturday. See you at the starting line! 

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we ask that participants wear a mask before and after the ride, except when eating or drinking. 

Packet Pickup 

  • Packets are being mailed to participants this week. If you have not received it prior to the ride, please visit the information tent on Saturday after 7 a.m. 

Saturday Morning  

  • Start times are 8 a.m. - 40 & 80-mile | 8:30 a.m. - 25-mile & Family Ride.  
  • The starting line is located at the southeast corner of Monroe Ave NW & Fulton Street W, Grand Rapids. 
  • See Grand Rapids parking options. Note: ArtPrize traffic could be heavy in the downtown area, please allow yourself extra time to arrive. 
  • The information tent opens at 7 a.m. The medical tent is open 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

Course & Safety 

  • Course maps, turn-by-turn directions and Strava maps can be accessed here.  
  • To change your route, visit the information tent on Saturday morning. 
  • Helmets are required. All routes are open to two-way motorized traffic. Cyclists must follow traffic laws at all times. Read full Rules of the Road here 
  • Timing, SAG and police support ends at 2 p.m. The 25-mile and Family Ride close at 11:30 a.m. 
  • Be aware of extra traffic in the following areas: 
    • Downtown area due to ArtPrize 
    • 80-mile course rest stop at Grace Lutheran Church, between 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. 
  • Detachable aero bars, penny farthings and unicycles are not permitted for safety reasons. Participants using non-standard bicycles must wear brightly colored clothing and attach an orange flag to their cycling unit. Bike trailers are only permitted on the Family Ride.

After the Ride 

  • Secure bike parking is provided by Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition. 
  • Timing results will be available here 
  • Enjoy the Finish Line Festival on Fulton Street until 4 p.m. with food trucks, craft brews and live music. 
  • Please note, festival attendance is limited to participants and their families and event sponsors due to COVID-19 precautions. 
  • Event photos will be posted on our Facebook page in the next few days. 

Fundraising and Donations 

  • Donations can be turned in at the information tent between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. 
  • There’s still time to fundraise for commemorative gear and top fundraising prizes like an exclusive virtual hangout with Phil Liggett. Fundraising closes on September 27.
